Robert Alminana was project manager and lead designer as part of HDR for this master plan and specific plan for an addition to the historic downtown of the City of King City. The planning process culminated with a 7-day public design Charrette in April 2005 to prepare a master plan including 100 acres already within the City limits—the Downtown Addition—and 400 acres to be annexed—the Eastern Extension.
The master plan organizes the property into four walkable neighborhoods, the Downtown Addition, across the railroad tracks from the existing downtown, including retail and mixed-use buildings, and the three to the east progressively less dense and more rural in character. The plan incorporates an Amtrak station, two schools and community open space, featuring a linear park along the creek.
