Handsboro SmartCode Community Plan

Gulfport’s citywide SmartCode was adopted in February 2007 as an option for development in its communities and neighborhoods. Handsboro is the third existing community in Gulfport to make the SmartCode mandatory within its boundaries and its Community Plan is now an integral part of the City’s SmartCode.

The Plan includes the following components: the text of an Article added to the SmartCode specifying the authority, intent, and applicability of the Plan, and the general requirements and community-wide building-scale density requirements; a Regulating Plan depicting the boundaries of the planning area, assigning the new Transect zones, and featuring new overlay districts such as transportation and retail corridors, density-receiving areas and neighborhood conservation districts; a Special Requirements and Options Plan; and a Street and Parking Plan. Hall Alminana prepared the Handsboro Community Plan, conducted and led the community public involvement process and guided the Plan through the adoption process.
