Gulfport Redevelopment Plan

Two hundred professionals from around the world were mobilized to participate in a week-long Charrette (October ‘05) to help plan for the Mississippi Gulf Coast areas destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Robert Alminana was a leader of the HDR Team, assigned to Gulfport.

The overall goal of the Gulfport Plan and the individual efforts it contains is to create a framework for guiding redevelopment throughout the City. This includes re-establishing the mixed-use prominence of the downtown; optimizing the locational and functional opportunities associated with the Port; optimizing the locational opportunities associated with Gulf-front property; reinforcing and strengthening the character and structure of older neighborhoods throughout the City; creating linkages and functional diversity among newer neighborhoods; establishing regional transportation diversity; and reinforcing the underlying regional ecosystems.
