In 1997, Apple Valley Lane was one of the most dangerous and crime-ridden neighborhoods of Santa Rosa. That year, the City of Santa Rosa Housing and Redevelopment Department contracted with Architect Alan Cohen and Laura Hall (while at Fisher & Hall Urban Design) as part of the Neighborhood Revitalization Program to redesign the apartments based upon the principles of CPTED and defensible space.

“The area of Apple Valley Lane is one of the highest-crime neighborhoods in the city.”(Press Democrat, May 1997) |

Using the principles of CPTED and defensible space, Laura Hall and Architect Alan Cohen redesigned the front elevations and semi-private spaces of the Apple Valley Lane apartments. |
